St. Brigid of Ireland is one of Ireland’s beloved patron saints and is especially associated with hospitality, the home, and dairy work. She is the patron saint of dairymaids, cattle, and farmers, and many stories of her life include miracles involving milk and butter given generously to the poor. Her feast day invites us to celebrate God’s provision and the holiness found in everyday work.
Here are some easy and meaningful ways to celebrate St. Brigid with your family!
Enjoy Irish-Inspired Food or Drink
Because of St. Brigid’s patronage of dairy, her feast day is a perfect time to enjoy simple, nourishing foods:
- Fresh bread with butter
- Milk or hot cocoa
- Ice cream
- Irish soda bread
- Buttered potatoes

Make a Simple St. Brigid Cross
A common way to celebrate St. Brigid is by making St. Brigid’s Cross. Traditionally, these are woven from reeds or grass, but for a simple, kid-friendly version, you can use our printable St. Brigid’s Cross. As you assemble it, talk about how St. Brigid brought God’s blessing into her home and shared His care with others.

Practice Hospitality
Invite children to help with a small act of hospitality—setting the table, sharing food, or bringing a snack to a neighbor.
