How to Celebrate the Feast of Sts. Cyril and Methodius (February 14)

Sts. Cyril and Methodius were brothers and missionaries who brought the Gospel to Eastern Europe. They are especially known for creating an alphabet so people could read Scripture in their own language. Their feast day celebrates communication, learning, and sharing the Word of God.

Here are simple ways to celebrate their feast!

Make a Craft to Commemorate Their Mission

Children cut, color, and assemble a pop-up Byzantine-style church while learning about Sts. Cyril and Methodius, the great missionaries who brought the Gospel to the Slavic peoples. They helped people worship in their own language, and played a key role in the evangelization of Eastern Europe.

Enjoy Alphabet or Eastern European–Inspired Foods

Celebrate Sts. Cyril and Methodius with foods inspired by Slavic traditions and their work teaching people to read.

  • Alphabet Soup or Letter-Shaped Crackers – Fun and educational, reminding children of the saints’ creation of the Slavic alphabet.

  • Hearty Foods: Goulash, pierogi (dumplings), sausage & sauerkraut, stuffed cabbage, or potato pancakes.

Play with Letters

Use letter magnets, blocks, or writing activities to explore the alphabet together.

Pray for Missionaries and Teachers

Offer a prayer for those who help others learn, read, and grow in faith.
