How to Celebrate the Feast of the Guardian Angels (October 2)

The Feast of the Guardian Angels is a beautiful reminder that God has given each of us a heavenly protector to guide, guard, and intercede for us. The Catechism tells us: “From infancy to death human life is surrounded by their watchful care and intercession” (CCC 336). This feast is a wonderful opportunity to help children become more aware of their guardian angel’s presence in their daily life.

Here are some simple, hands-on, and family-friendly ways to celebrate this feast day!

Color and Create with our Guardian Angel Printables

We’ve created a Guardian Angel Coloring Page and a Guardian Angel Paper Doll printable to make this feast extra fun! Kids can spend time coloring while you talk about how their angel is always with them, even if they can’t see them.

Angel-Themed Treats

Celebrate the feast day with angel-inspired foods that are fun for kids and easy to prepare:

  • Angel Food Cake – Light, fluffy, and perfect served plain, with fruit, or topped with whipped cream.

  • Angel Halo Donuts – Glaze plain donuts with white icing and sprinkle with gold or yellow to resemble halos.

  • Marshmallow Foods – Serve bowls of marshmallows as “clouds,” top hot chocolate with marshmallow clouds, or make airy meringue cookies for a heavenly treat.

Pray the Guardian Angel Prayer Together

One of the simplest yet most meaningful activities for this day is to pray the traditional Guardian Angel Prayer:

Angel of God, my guardian dear,
to whom God’s love commits me here,
ever this day be at my side,
to light and guard, to rule and guide. Amen.

Encourage kids to memorize this prayer if they haven’t already, and pray it together in the morning, on car rides, when they feel scared, or at bedtime.

Make “Angel Wings” Craft

For a fun hands-on activity, try making simple angel wings with your children! Cut out wing shapes from construction paper or cardstock (or trace your child’s hands to create wing-like shapes). You could even make a cardboard version of angel wings to have your kids wear like we did!
