How to Celebrate the Feast of Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati (July 4)

Pier Giorgio Frassati, often called “the man of the Beatitudes”, was a young Italian outdoorsman known for his joy, generosity, and love of adventure. He had a deep devotion to the Eucharist and a heart for serving the poor, but he also loved hiking, skiing, and spending time with friends. His motto, “Verso l’Alto” (“to the heights”), reminds us to keep striving upward toward holiness.

Here are some simple, hands-on, and family-friendly ways to celebrate his feast day!

Make a Pull Tab “Verso l’Alto” Craft

Pier Giorgio’s motto “Verso l’Alto” makes a perfect theme for a kid-friendly craft! With our pull tab printable, children can move a mountain climber (Pier Giorgio) up toward the top of a mountain where the words “To the Heights!” are written.
This activity not only keeps little hands busy but also opens up a great discussion about what it means to always reach higher in our faith, even when life is challenging.

Go on a Family Hike or Outdoor Adventure

Since Pier Giorgio loved the mountains, the most authentic way to celebrate his feast is to get outside! Plan a hike, nature walk, or even a backyard picnic.
While you walk, talk with your kids about how Pier Giorgio saw God in creation and how being outdoors can remind us of heaven.

Enjoy Italian-Inspired Food

Since Pier Giorgio was Italian, celebrate his feast with a simple Italian meal. Think pasta, pizza, or a gelato night!
Here are a few easy ideas:

  • Spaghetti with tomato sauce or pesto

  • Fresh bread with olive oil

  • Gelato or Italian ice for dessert

For a fun kid-friendly twist, you can make “mountain sundaes” by scooping ice cream into little peaks and topping them with sprinkles or whipped cream “snow.”
