How to Celebrate the Feast of St. Joan of Arc with Children

St. Joan of Arc is one of the boldest, bravest saints in Church history. She was called by God at a young age to lead an army and stand for truth, justice, and faith in the middle of war. She inspires us to listen for God’s voice and trust Him, even when it’s hard or scary.

Here are some simple and meaningful ways to honor St. Joan of Arc with your kids:

Celebrate with Our St. Joan of Arc Coloring Page and Armor of God Paper Dolls

Use our St. Joan of Arc coloring page to introduce her story and spark a conversation about courage and faith. Then, dress the Armor of God paper dolls to teach children how St. Joan wore armor in battle and how we can put on the armor of God each day, too. Talk about the Belt of Truth, Shield of Faith, and Sword of the Spirit (Ephesians 6:10–18), and how St. Joan of Arc trusted in God’s protection.

Feast with French Food or Campfire Food

Celebrate her French roots with a fun French-themed meal or breakfast-for-dinner:

  • Croissants
  • Baguettes with jam and butter
  • Crepes with fruit or Nutella
  • French toast with whipped cream and berries
  • Quiche Lorraine

Set a pretty table and maybe even play some classical French music in the background.

St. Joan of Arc was tragically burned at the stake at age 19. While it’s a somber reality, you can nod to her courage some symbolic foods:

  • Hot dogs over a campfire
  • S’mores (because what kid doesn’t love marshmallows and chocolate?)
  • Toasted marshmallows or even a “campfire night” in the backyard

Act it Out: Brave Knights in Battle

Encourage your children to dress up as knights or saints: blankets as capes, cardboard swords and shields, and all. Pretend you’re Joan and her army heading into battle for a good cause. You could even act out scenes where your little ones stand up for what is right, just like St. Joan did when she followed God’s call, even when others didn’t believe her.
